@Stu: Yeah, Hackintoshes are cheap, but I have to have me some of that glowing Apple love on the lid, not a Dell or HP logo.

@PJ: I think I might consider a new battery, although having said that I am rather taken with the 13in MacBook Pro's released today @ WWDC. I might have to hide the credit card until after Snow Leopard is released, though ;)

Would you consider buying a new battery for your Powerbook? That might keep you going for a while longer. You could get one for about £40 on ebay.

I know it's not ideal, but there are a number of windows netbooks that have been 'hackintoshed' (as they say)

http://gadgets.boingboing.net/2008/12/17/osx-netbook-compatib.html

It's not ideal, but it's a cheap solution. I think I heard the apple folk say they would never do a netbook, and I would be surprised if they did. Some would argue that the macbook air fits the netbook role, small / lightweight / no optical drive / very portable.

Looking forward to what the new iphone offers - here's hoping o2 do a similar upgrade special.

I would love to see iPhone OS 3.0 this week - I need something new from Apple to play with.

I hope the netbook does come this year - and I hope we see realistic pricing aswell. The cheapest Mac (apart from the Mac Mini) is the white MacBook which is £750. I don't need a laptop that big or powerful. Something inbetween the iPhone and MacBook would be great - with pricing inbetween aswell ;)

You know, I think Apple will do a netbook someday, or at least something that will be "like" a netbook. I don't know about tomorrow, but soon.

Also, I don't think that netbook/oversized iPod touch/whatever will be a Mac. It will run OS X, but not Leopard/Snow Leopard. It would most likely run a version of OS X like the iPhone OS.

My wife, Karen, would probably like something like this too. She uses an iMac Core 2 Duo for most things, but has a seriously ailing iBook G4 for couch web surfing and looking up recipes whilst in the kitchen.

Otherwise, I think we'll see a new iPhone with a release in late June/early July. We'll see Snow Leopard with a ship date announced.

My big hope is that iPhone OS 3.0 will be released this week. I have been finding a need for copy and paste a lot in the past couple of weeks!

And I am hoping for Steve Jobs, too, but I think he won't be officially back until the end of June, as promised. Although, as with most of Apple's promises, they'll slip and it won't happen until October!
