Judging by some of the posts on the Apple Support forums it seems that upgrading to 2.0.1 is what kills wi-fi…

Yesterday I charged up the iPod touch and left it on the desk. Today I got the empty box from UPS so before I put it in I tried to switch the iPod on but it was just a blank screen. After trying a couple of times the battery image came up on the screen showing red – battery right out. Since it was fully charged and hasn’t been touched this is unusual, so it’s dying in many ways. I don’t think they can do anything else except send me a new one.

I got the confirmation e-mail from Apple this evening, outlining what will happen and how I can check the progress online. It says in the e-mail that they are sending me a REPLACEMENT iPod touch. I’m not sure how accurate that is but maybe this is a known hardware failure so they will be issuing me with a new one. I wouldn’t complain about that, obviously, but whatever would I call the new fella?

Now I’m scared. Thanks for sharing, so if anything weird happens to my Touch (Charlie) I won’t randomly try to fix it myself.

Sorry to hear that Oscar is poorly – interesting to see that you are indeed not alone!

I don’t use my Touch much in the house, but I will check the WiFi when I do.
