Tweetie for Mac
I am very excited to hear that Tweetie, the best twitter client for the iPhone bar none, is coming to a Mac desktop near you. I have struggled to find a desktop client that I feel truly comfortable with other than Twitterrific. I can’t abide TweetDeck, Twhirl, EventBox or the other twitter clients which also incorporate feeds from Flickr/Facebook/RSS. Twitterrific is a very barebones app compared to the other clients around, but I do like the Mac only exclusivity and the fact that it isn’t a horrid AIR app.
I am hopeful that I can finally banish Twitterrific to the archives when Tweetie for Mac hits the tubes and I expect it will be every bit as elegant as the iPhone app.

On 11th December I placed an order with Meninos for a Twitter Mousepad. Choosing a mousepad can be harder than you think – the shinier plastic/rubber topped ones have been a real drag for every mouse I’ve used including the Mighty and Magic mice – and using it directly on my desktop was even worse.

I was wondering how long it would take atebits to come out with a Tweetie client for Mac. I am the fool of the crowd as I remain a Twitterrific loyalist. I think it’s mostly because I paid $10 for the iPhone app.
I don’t fire up Twitterrific on my Mac too often anymore. Usually just during Apple Keynotes.
However, that said, I am prepared to switch to Tweetie in the near future depending on two things:
1) I am giving Iconfactory until iPhone OS 3.0 is released to come out with Twitterrific touch 2.0. Considering the developer, Craig Hockenberry sent out 2.0b1 to his testers last week, I’m not too worried. Also, Darkslide developer Fraser Speirs tweeted that he wants to marry Twitterrific touch 2.0.
2)It better be fricken awesome. If it isn’t, I am gone to Tweetie. Two of the things I really want are landscape keyboard and the ability to follow/unfollow/block. I know Tweetie does this now, but I am hoping my patience will be rewarded.
However, if I do end up making the jump to Tweetie, then I will be happy that there will be a complimentary Mac client. And who knows, I may rock the Mac client anyway.

Ooooooooooh, thanks for mentioning this – can’t wait to try it out.
Chances are though, that Tweetie will be an Air app – most seem to be recently.
Twitteriffic is a bit ‘big’ for my liking, if that makes sense. It has quite a large footprint considering how many tweets it shows. My current client of choice is DestoryTwitter – has tonnes of features and looks great. I did use Twhirl for a long time but fancied a change. I don’t really mind Air apps – but they do tend to set my laptop’s fans going when open with a few other apps.

@AndrewBooth I doubt Tweetie for Mac will be an AIR app.
1) The site says Tweetie for Mac. If it used AIR then it would also run on Windows.
2) Over on the atebits blog, they say the Mac version is a complete rewrite of the code used for Tweetie on iPhone, and this rewrite will also serve as the foundation for Tweetie 2.0 on iPhone.
Gosh, all day I have been resisting the urge to switch to Tweetie. One thing I absolutely love about its developers is how open they are about talking about product development, whereas Iconfactory says nothing about Twitterrific.
Very much trying to hold out to give Twitterrific touch 2.0 a chance. But I am slowly getting whittled down by all of you Tweetie users.

Seems like really good news, I’ve just found a twitter mac client called bluebird and it seems really nice, it’s still beta but seems very stable and no errors like I always got with twitterific. It’s also highly skinable and to me it sort of feels like the adium of twitter clients on mac, but Im really interested to see what tweetie is like for mac as I only use that for iphone now.
